For those who don’t have discord, Shep announces an open beta for an app. Due to how strict iOS is with NSFW, there’s fears that it could lead to further censorships.
It must be noted that one of the reason why sites like AO3 don’t have an app is to avoid unnecessary restrictions imposed by iOS. Only time will tell if this could mean further NSFW censorship

wanted to give some context on why weve been building this, 80% of you are on mobile and mobile web has just kinda sucked tbh. slow, breaks when you switch tabs etc. the app fixes that but also lets us do stuff we literally couldnt do on web, unity, animations, push notifs, real native features.
but the bigger picture is to have real time recommendation feeds, real time comments, group chats and other cool experiemental features that will work natively.
creators will get way better tools too, analytics, better ways to grow your audience, stuff that makes this feel more like publishing interactive stories than just uploading character cards.
re: nsfw - app stores require it off by default. site moderation stays exactly the same. you toggle nsfw on once from the website and then the app works exactly like you expect (exact same as site), one time thing. this is how apps like grindr and other 18+ platforms stay on the app store btw. you delegate age verification to apple and google who actually have the data and signals to verify someone is an adult. way better than us trying to do it ourselves. means we can gate properly so only verified adults see the app at all.
