It seems that as JanitorAI matures, we see more and more bot creators leave the site. May it be personal problems, or other issues, it is disheartening and saddening to see the bots we grew to love and have been attached with just disappear out of the blue.
This concept is similar to the Orphaned Works feature in Archive of Our Own. And since JanitorAi has no native implementation of it, we as users can hodgepodge a basic rudimentary imitation of it. This is the Orphaned Works Preservation Project and how it came to be.
Orphaned Works Preservation Project
What is it?
The Orphaned Works Preservation Project is an attempt to ensure that users will continue to enjoy well loved bots, think of it as a backup of sorts. It is not just a preservation of orphaned works but keeping a piece of history with us, documenting guides, works, bots and other components of our chatting.
How can you help?
There are multiple routes to keep backup copies or ensure the longevity of the bots we love. But first and foremost, it is important to secure permissions from the original bot creators to repost their works. We must endeavor to continually respect the author’s intellectual property.
If you are a creator and is planning to leave the site, this is a humble plea to leave some way for others to keep enjoying your bots either by
1. Uploading character sheets here or somewhere else
2. Keep your old account without deleting it
3. Hand someone else the rights to continue preserving your works.
For bot users, after securing permissions to repost a work, ensure there are multiple copies of the bot definitions and images, including uploading to Google drive, drop box or using this Site’s posting features.
JAIHub allows Registered Users to post and upload character definitions. Furthermore, if you are authorized to repost the work on JanitorAI and other chat sites, use the tag #OrpanedWorks to help acknowledge that you are NOT the original author.
Proof of Consent
When Reposting: ALWAYS credit the original CREATOR. It is also helpful to link to a screenshot to the author’s consent to have their works reposted.
Basic Process flow
JAIHub is intended to help preserve creator works and “fireproof” them from unforeseen consequences, acting as a secondary repository or backup. This is completely a user driven effort and must be done manually. THERE is no data scraping involved.
1. Register an account here.
2. Share you or the bot definitions by posting here.
3. Link the character sheets somewhere or in JanitorAI (if you are authorized to repost it).
4. Post your characters here and in JanitorAI
5. If you are unable to do so, feel free to contact someone else and let them post on your behalf.
6. Spread the word so others can access the bots we preserve here
7. Join the effort, simply reposting works that have long been abandoned is enough. Tag the reposted bot with #OrphanedWorks
Work in Progress
This is a work in progress, done in haste to preserve as much precious works as possible. So expect changes in the workflow and rules from time to time.
Feel free to share feedback, or if you have a simpler workflow to suggest, feel free to comment or post in the forums.
Thank you so much to the amazing bot creators who let us enjoy their works. So let’s do our part to ensure that our favorite bots stay with us for as long as possible.
