  • What is the state of verification. I am aware it’s been down for a year (or two), but creators are still getting verified because you like the bot. This month alone several people made posts in the server mentioning you gave verification to other creators. Again. After the whole discussion about communication and the call outs just a few months ago. How does this not fall into lines of favoritism when creators have to impress the devs? And if its not favoritism, then what would you call it?
  • Why do you struggle with making important announcements before implementing changes? For example, the suicide law changes. It’s very known that the community is overreactive and volatile (not defending nor talking down on the community). I am trying to understand your perspective as someone who owns this site. A heads up 2-3 days before implementing changes would’ve saved the outrage and frustration, especially when users were attacking mods. This happens a lot, and I am struggling to believe whether or not you like the community in shambles over your lack of communication.
  • There’s mentions in the discord that there’s an alpha site where you test changes before implementing them into the beta site. Is there a reason why you don’t use the alpha site anymore? While yes, this is the beta site and we are the testers, wouldn’t it be more logical to have a group of testers to test on the alpha site before you implement the changes?
  • Do you discuss changes and development with your mods? Many times on Reddit and the server alone mods mention they have no idea about the changes you made. While I understand mods are modding for the server and/or Reddit, wouldn’t it be wiser to update mods on anything you’re working on behind the scene so they are aware on how to address questions and situations? It starts to feel like your mods are your personal punching bags because users aren't able to direct their frustrations at you unless you're in the threads/forums.
  • Edit to add: I am not 100% if this is factual as I seen this talked about in another server, but if you blocked the ability for users to comment in your discord server for having another competitor site's tag, why is that? I can understand having the rule to not directly mention any site that's not Janitor, but to block and prevent your users to interact with your server because of a tag that isn't yours seems silly. Please correct me if this isn't factual.

Thank you.

Why do you do this? Would it not be easier to put it in announcements so we can all see it? I rarely use the Discord unless it's to check announcements.

dandelionii • 2d ago iorveths 🐺 post-apocalyptic enthusiast Not that I expect people to track my posts across platforms/subs (though you clearly seem invested in my opinion) but I haven’t been “Janitor’s Biggest Defender” for some time (nevermind that I’m barely active on site or in the discord…) and I’m the first person who will suggest that everyone - creator or user - should consider going local as investing in a platform that cannot be relied upon to be fair or impartial is a fool’s errand.

I’d also just like to say that one of the biggest issues I’ve ‘defended’ is the fact that users are frequently toxic and abusive towards volunteer mods, who have never had any say in dev decisions or site updates…which the link you’re replying to does cover extensively 🙃

Thinking that this community is often times immature, entitled and reactionary (and/or having my own opinions, positive or negative, about updates) =/= defending Janitor. I’m plenty critical of the platform (and its development), but that doesn’t mean I’m not also going to be critical of the userbase.

I think the moderation situation is incredibly upsetting and my heart hurts for all the people, mods, creators and users, who have gotten fucked over by poor management, poor communication and impulse-based decision making. I think anyone defending it now would be closing their eyes to persistent issues that have existed in the site from the beginning. I have in the past, yeah, been optimistic about JanitorAI changing for the better, but I struggle to believe in anything that isn’t direct action at this point.

So yeah, that’s my input.

MithosYggdrasill1992 • 1d ago Horny 😰 The only genuine good thing I seen in that document is the fact that Hugo admits that y’all play favorites with creators that have a lot of people following them. Which explains why other creators who don’t have a lot of followers for whatever reason seem to get the short into the shaft with just about everything. From banning to lack of communication to just their bots, not being as widely, I guess advertised as some of the more well-known creators.

1 more reply lofiblossom • 2d ago What are you going to do about the lack of communication towards users and mods as they've said before that they know things at the same time as users do? Seems pretty bad to not inform your mods. Follow-up question: You promised more communication and then immediately did a few things that were poorly communicated. You mentioned that you have difficulty making announcements and communicating. You clearly need someone who can communicate effectively. Why won't you hire someone for that, or at least someone who can help? Do you realize people are having promise fatigue, and that most of the user base is upset with how things are done? I'm seeing creators leave right and left, the Discord is mad, the Reddit is mad. And this has been happening for a while. Do you have any concrete plans that will repair the trust, or will you keep going like this? Why don't you use testers anymore? Why is jllm v2 being tested on random people instead of people who can actually test and can/will leave feedback. You've mentioned star ratings before, but this doesn't show why someone rated something. I've seen for example that the messages are very short, but if people show that how do you know that the person themselves are not sending very short messages themselves? Why don't you just have (or keep, but they've been removed) testers who will test a version of what you're doing (either new functions or updated JLLM)? I saw that some popular bot creators are in a focus group(roles on discord), but just popular creators are not good testers, no offense to them, but it does seem like you just want feedback that feels good, and not actual feedback that different kinds of users give. To add to what you've mentioned about blind testing before, it is unethical and breaks the trust you already don't have, as most people are upset about how you handle things. They don't want to be testers, and you're losing valuable feedback.

Since we have the hidden gems tab now would it be possible to split bots up by who created them?

That way you could potentially add tabs for creators with less than 5k, less than 10k, less than 20k, etc etc (or whatever number you deem fair). Just right now it's disheartening to post and see you have to compete with the big creators for page 1 trending

2 more replies u/IAmFraulein88 avatar IAmFraulein88 • 2d ago Are you going to implement some sort of way, like say, people can see recommendations or the page having a recommendation section. So like say, I was using a fluffy boyfriend bot, there would be recommendation of other bots similar to what I was using, etc. Not only that, to basically implement an algorithm to make it fair for newer creators to be seen.

Secondly, are you also going to implement a page specifically to show the latest bots?

Because it isn't fair that the bigger creators have to carry the responsibility of giving exposure to newer creators who are obviously talented and creative.

Thirdly - I am going to be real. There are better websites than what JAI could offer, at this point of time. I'm asking what are your plans are to make JAI different from the rest.

Of course I understand there's some things that only the app could have, but as someone who prefers the webpage UI and such, and has seen this from other companies (ie. c.ai neglecting their website when the app came out, then neglecting the app when people preferred the website). it's a concern of mine that one will get priority rather than working on both.

also this:

One limitation was that creators above a certain follower threshold (at 666 followers, I kid you not) could no longer be banned directly. If you posted bannable content with 500 followers, moderation could act. If you posted the exact same content with 1k followers, moderation had to ask devs for permission. (That permission was never granted.) Because what do you mean you're allowing abuse to happen if someone is popular?

Also note if this is the comment that gets me banned, you are confirming that all of this is true.

UMAbyUMA • 2d ago user Was the new model tested a few days ago JLLM2? I’m curious whether its extremely short default responses are a bug or an intentional design choice. If it’s intentional, do you see designing models to respond with brief, chat-like replies as the future direction of the site? Considering this is a story RP platform, that feels quite strange.

I understand the model is still in testing, so it could be an error. Still, I’d like to know whether the developers are confident this matches what users prefer…or at least what a portion of users prefer. From my perspective, creators who put real effort into building background settings and long-term users tend to favor more detailed, longer responses.

3 more replies u/LonliestGirlOnMars avatar LonliestGirlOnMars • 2d ago I don’t really interact with JAI community because it’s not overly great but I do want ask a few questions especially after so MANY creators have been leaving lately.

Will there be a feature that creators can create moderations for their own bots and profiles? Will the on-sight reporting system get restructured? Will there be actual communication and overall transparency going forward? I have been seeing a lot of creators speak about a ton of issues happening but never been addressed by you at all. Racism, harassment, homophobia, and etc. Some creators have actively left JAI and the community because of this. Which is just very said. This isn’t just towards creators but their bots as well. I’ve noticed that some users find it okay to say disturbing and off the wall things regarding stuff they’ve done to the creator’s bot(s).

As a black woman myself, it's very sad and upsetting to see how prevalent these issues are on this platform.

Another issue is why you haven’t made any updates ot annulment regarding various changed that have been made to the site. I would least expected small blog posts or even polls to gauge what the user base might like and not like.

Some many creators have been fighting for these issues to at least to be taken taken into account and talked about by JAI. But, instead they meet with silence and a cycle of essentially being heard or given false promises. At this point more and more creators are leaving because the coming and JAI is not a completely great place to be. It's quite Toxic and has been for a while.

This is no way an attack or anything. Just sort of a small compilation of issues that existed but were never really acknowledged. I have also halted myself from creating for the time being until measure to protect creators and users from this is implemented and discussed.

communication/transparency:

yes, this has to improve i gave more info and plans for this in other questions but i just hate this being my biggest failure to the users and i think with sophia and hugo helping with it it will definetely become better.

harassment/racism/homophobia:

this is not okay, full stop and i really want janitor to be a safe space for us. better moderation tooling and ai mod will hopefully stop most of this.

2 more replies u/Leading-Analysis-362 avatar Leading-Analysis-362 • 2d ago Do you or the team have any plans to address toxicity within the community, specifically in the official Discord?

I’m mainly referring to issues surrounding CSS. I joined the server a few months ago to ask questions and looked through previous discussions, and I noticed that some official team members are incredibly rude, if not outright toxic, in their responses.

Since then, I’ve spoken with other users who have shared similar experiences. Some were reportedly threatened with having their CSS or even their account removed if they did not add credit or remove specific pieces of code, even when it involved something very minor. For example, one person had only used a small part of a template for their profile picture, while everything else was standard or recolored.

I understand wanting to clamp down on people who steal or fully copy entire profiles. However, if someone is not a moderator, they should not be speaking or acting as if they have that authority. That kind of behavior should also have consequences. Especially if they contain severe threats like that.

Many of the people I’ve talked to are now genuinely afraid to ask questions at all, because the responses they receive are often things like “learn the basics first then come back” or “people new to CSS make me cry.” If someone is part of a team that is meant to help with CSS, they should not be behaving in a toxic or dismissive way toward newcomers asking beginner questions.

I apologize if the wording is a bit awkward. I'm Brazilian, English is not my first language, and I used a translator to help.

Example — creator CherryFiles was forced to go through all her bots that allegedly didn't comply with the new guidelines, and after making the requested changes, she was still made to go over everything, and moderation claimed she still didn't comply, making this the last straw for the the creator to leave the website. To my knowledge she didn't have any severe violations nor did she ignore the instructions. I understand it was her decision to leave but how does any reasonable moderator expect a person to go through hundreds of bots to fix definitions when it's not even clear what is still missing and what needs to be fixed?

Another person's post on this subreddit was removed by moderator when they posted their pet chicken when the site was down. Why? I mean it's a small thing, but it ties into the larger problem of moderation of both this subreddit and the website being slightly inadequate

Starting with Image thumbnail censorship, to chat description images being censored, to now words being seemingly outright shadow banned.—My question is two-fold: what is guiding the team’s push towards censorship, and how can the community feel secure against further censorship (especially for chat text); given the progressively slippery slope site moderation that the team has implemented? My second question following the above, is if the censorship is primarily driven by investor demands…why not work with the community to find alternative sources of funding? We obviously care about the site, and if out of touch boomers are the ones hindering its growth…many of us would be willing to help however we can. This one is a personal nitpick, but what is that list of acceptable Pokemon site moderation has? As a longtime fan of the franchise, some of the standards used to create it were very…questionable at best (especially given how “sexual maturity” in the games isn’t really a thing? Because you have Mon’s like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander all capable of popping out eggs there).

I have a feeling the moderation regarding DD on the site tightened, since I'm seeing bots removed for “depictions of something that is allowed on the site” or even mere “potential” to break TOS. Besides, I noticed that both on Discord and Reddit bots with these themes are no longer allowed. I don't want my comment deleted so I'm being vague about those themes.

My second question is also regarding censorship, I'd like to know why the comment moderation filter is SO strict? It bans innocent responses, while true harassment can still get through it. Are there any plans to attune it?

1 more reply u/FreemanS98 avatar FreemanS98 • 2d ago Maybe, Just Maybe Hello Shep. As a small creator, I have a few questions.

Hidden Gems Feature has been a decent addition, but it needs more curation (searching/filtering by tags) to encourage users to look into that tab. Any plans to improve it, or anything else can we expect for boosting small creators in the near future? There has been speculations and suspicions of some creators “botting” (inflating interaction numbers w/ spam) to get to the trending page, abusing the current system. What are your thoughts on that? A big concern in the community, is big creators leaving, for a variety of reasons (moderation, site drama, personal matters and more). Are you concerned about this?

Otaku_Instinct • 2d ago Are there any plans to improve bot discoverability? Right now, trending is dominated by (often smut-heavy) bots from already popular creators. There are a lot of high-quality bots from smaller creators that essentially lie dormant because they didn’t bubble up within the 24h/7d trending window. Are you considering additions like in-search tag exclusion, a search toggle for lorebook bots, or more metric-based filters such as sorting by favorites or engagement/average chat length?

u/Much-Aioli-4853 avatar Much-Aioli-4853 • 2d ago 1-) What is really going on with communication issue? Almost all of the updates/changes be it major or minor are never announced before, and just get noticed after people start noticing it. The lack of transparency and communication issue had been a big deal of janitor for two years. Most people voiced out their concerns, gave feedback and ran the course… but all we got was empty words of 'We heard you! We are looking on it!' with no noticable change in communication. At some point, when it is going to start matter to actually see some clarity on updates, logs or changes?

2-) At the start, JAI had been known and marketed as being fully uncensored NSFW site. I do agree that it is practically impossible to have 'full' NSFW. Though, this saying of 'fully uncensored NSFW site' changed into 'full NSFW on TEXT chats' after image NSFW ban. And two weeks ago our text chats got censored in suicidal ideation/self-harm stuff. The question is: Is JAI no longer what it is marketed as? What is going to happen to the core values of JAI that one of the main reasons for its creation was to NOT be like the other big competitors on censorship and filtering basis?

3-)How JAI plans to handle age verification when the laws may possibly catch up or JAI gains enough popularity to be in mainstream media that will probably make pressure?

4-) The Polls were introduced months ago. Just got used once. Is polls one of the forgotten features now? I remember its main idea was to ask community about changes that will happen in the site.

5-) What is with the UI changes? As much as I like some of them, majority of the community does not like something they used to be changed surprisingly without no notice.

6-) When feedback about some PR team for communication was given, the response given was 'no revenue'. Is there any plans to expand the team to actually have people who can communicate clearly with people?

7-) It is said and claimed that some creators still receive verification. Isn't verification badges supposed to be halted as the only one that can hand out verification was Shep, and there had been favouritsm in that case?

8-) Any progress on milestones/achievements? Can we get some sort of timeline or roadmap about milestones?

9-) I myself had noticed some bots get their image placeholdered without any mod information about why in the comments. Did something in the moderation changed that mods no longer use comments to notify why the main image of the bots got placeholdered?

10-) In the current state of JAI, due to constant unnoticed changes, strict and vague moderation on images and favouritsm makes a very hostile enviroment for creators. Especially indie/small creators. All of my favourite creators left or on hiatus which more than half of them being the reason of the changes in JAI. I found new creators, and they left too. Other than big creators, the small creators often leave early. Any plans for making the site more new creator friendly?

11-) APP beta published, the 'image' that was given in the banner people thought it that betta fish was going to be the badge… but all they got was a golden mop coin badge. Not just that, there is still first supporters who paid $10 to support and promised a badge… which was not given. Was it a scam? If not, when they are going to be handed out just as promised?

12-) It is said that it is hard to expand the team due to revenue, and one of the main devs who were communicative is no longer working in JAI. With the publishing of mobile APP, is the dev teams going to be under more load or there is a dedicated team for mobile app?

13-) The search engine in JAI is… meh at best. I'm really curious about any updates on that?

14-) Some people say analyitcs (I think they are good) just pushes more agenda of 'numbers matter more, not creativity' thing. And others claim Shep said that there is a 'point' system for trending bots where similar stats in Analytics assign points to your bot which makes them go up in trending? Is this true? How does trending work?

These are all my questions so far, I'll add if I have new ones.

u/Inevitable-Meet1056 avatar Inevitable-Meet1056 OP • 2d ago shep gonna group these and thank you for these questions

communication/announcements/polls:

this is a real issue. updates have been to scattered and often show up after people notice changes. “we hear you” without a visible system behind it just wont work at this scale. that is why updates are moving to the site/blog/notifs and polls were not ment to be one offs, but they ended up that way thats on me.

nsfw/censorship/selfharm law:

janitors core value of romantic rp has not changed. what did change was how legal/safety constraints were handled and communicated. that should of been clearer and earlier. the goal is not to turn janitor into a filtered platform, but i need to be explicit about what is a legal constraint vs a product choice.

age verification:

no plan to roll out intrusive age checks right now, we do have some plans to roll it out a way for people to verify age if they have been incorrectly banned for potentially being a minor.

ui changes:

ui updates have moved faster than communication around them. fair criticism. changes shouldnt feel random or surprising, also working on a way to automate this based off code i deploy.

verification:

answered in other questions, but basically the old system was bad and i think we will have a clear path forward really soon better creator analytics are the first step.

milestones:

being worked on, ultimately we had to start tracking things otherwise how would we define milestones etc so with creator analytics which i will keep adding dif data points to i think we can build out a rly cool system for this, also want to stress that we will be able to make some that arent just related to vanity metrics and try tie some cool things into there also, like stats based of how the rps are actually going.

moderation/creator experience:

small creators getting hit with unclear actions or no explanation is a problem. if janitor only works for big creators, that is a failure on the platform level, not a creator one.

app/badges/team:

not a scam, they got the discord badge and jllm access we couldnt do the on site badges coz of discord problems as there had to be a link with that, the mop badge will be given to early app users and fish badge ill hand out soon for beta testers.

search/analytics/trending:

search still needs work and rly excited about unreleased progress there. analytics are not meant to replace creativity with numbers they are there to show creators how people use their bots, and i think with scripts we may be able to build out a way to see what parts of the rp people got up to etc so u can finally make bots with an end etc. trending needs to be able to make smaller creators become #1 on it that is my goal, recommendations should also help with this.

not pretending all of this is fixed today, but these are my goals and aspirations for janitor,

2 more replies u/Separate-Nobody-613 avatar Separate-Nobody-613 • 2d ago Okay, let's be clear. Have you seen Discord? People just don't believe there will be any changes. You promise, promise, and promise, but there's nothing concrete for us to hold on to and ask about. Why are you doing this? Why don't you guarantee the safety of your creators? Why have you let problems pile up for three years and only now are you showing something to try to fix the shortcomings?

They need something to hold on to or something that gives them security, a public apology, the resignation of those who have abused their power. It's not fair that creators who have put so much effort into YOUR platform, creators and users who have grown YOUR platform, are being affected in this way.

1 more reply The_Pinkish_Lemonade • 2d ago Would it be possible to get an official tv show / movie character tag? I love these type of bots but I find difficulty looking for them unless I’m specific in my search because the only related tag is “fictional” . I never used it yet, but I heard the new JLLM is short form, and I’m wondering if you’d rather take it a different direction. If you guys were able to make something like an alternate Claude Opus, with good memory, and fine long details and paragraphs I think people would fork over money if you made it a paid alternative (as long as it’s cheaper than Opus which is outrageous ), while also keeping the original JLLM as a free option Just a couple ideas!

A few times in the past (most recently with the holiday overlay for bot cards) there were situations where potentially dangerous features were released with no way to easily toggle them off immediately, causing many people to be unable to use the site fully until the problem was resolved a fair few days later. There's also features that are still fully inaccessible (i.e. some parts of the site do not work with screen readers at all) or imperfect (CSS toggle - while I am happy we have it, I think it's a halfway measure, and ideally there should be a simple, customizable (with very few necessary features!) base profile that would be shown when the CSS toggle is off).

On that note, are there any plans of implementing a total site animation toggle that would encompass any dev AND user implemented animations (including gifs in profiles)?

u/Satanisnearby avatar Satanisnearby • 2d ago • Edited 2d ago Where are we with getting subscriptions up and running?

I know devs are busy but despite a promise for more transparency almost a year ago, the only thing “more transparent” was “hey the site is down” or “hey I did this thing” after the thing had already been done. Or even not at all, like when the persona selection was changed 4 separate times and no one liked the way it was being changed, or the accessibility issues every time a change was announced/discovered that made it worse for those who needed accessibility to get it. Some features that were changed and then removed needed toggles to go along with them so people who wouldn't be able to handle them could toggle them on/off or change profiles how they wanted. Are you still planning on being more transparent? Are you planning on any form of accessibility features for new roll-outs or a more customized experience for the website so people can be more happy with how the site looks, feels, and works?

And edit to add: The site seems to slowly be tightening the restrictions on what is/isnt allowed. I won't argue the current rules up for content moderation, those are acceptable, but the slow tightening of what can be shown in images, the shadowbanning of tags…a while ago you said you use your own site and didn't want the adult content to leave, that's why you made the site when others failed at that. But where's the line in restricting it? Will you just restrict content to what investors want, which will be child friendly, or will you let us have adult content on an adult site? I know it's said that payment processors cause difficulties for things like getting subscriptions from people who would pay to keep this site independent and running smooth, but somehow sites like AO3 manage to keep their content up and running with every ““non-sensible”” thing on the planet to payment processors, and they have donations every year that go through. There's a way for jai to have similar, right?

Fit_Specific7691 • 2d ago Horny 😰 From what I've seen you, the moderation team and the dev team are receiving a lot of backlash and downright abuse regularly. Given the post from Mikale, I think it's safe to say that something needs to be changed in the structure of the team. Do you have any plans regarding that?

I think reassigning workload, changing and clarifying responsibilities and ensuring a more transparent ruleset are incredibly important, so that fewer users approach the wrong people. For example if everyone would approach the dev team to ask about bans or stuff like that, it increases work they shouldn't have in the first place. And the communication lines need restructuring so the mod team is more involved with certain decisions, since they have important inputs to make.

Just to clarify: I don't think this is a problem that came about due to maliciousness. But due to structural and communication issues.

But some things I can understand, seeing as the world and the userbase act - considering, that we are getting new laws everyday that either block NSFW stuff or want IDs for everything, I can understand a lot of rules being made. And with being reluctant about banning big creators - sure, its unfair as fuck, but I've seen multiple times people here screaming, because their fav creator made TOS breaking content and then complained bc it was deleted.

DeviTries • 2d ago Hi,

Sorry this might be long winded.

I don't understand why Analytics need to be given to creators (even if you would want to implepemnt them for other things like badge assignments).

  • They don't provide you any sort of feedback which you can use to improve.
  • They mostly give creators performance anxiety.
  • They might make small creators completely give up entirely because now there are other 9 colored graph lines that can show them one of the bots they probably put a lot of effort into has flopped.

That being said, I really don't think that should be kept accessible to content creators.

Also, is there any plan to have something like a “for you” tab instead of the trending? Something that maybe based on the tags of the bots I usually play with can suggest me more of that?

bibimbao • 2d ago As a small creator (less than 30 followers) I like the analytics tbh. I wanted to ask, with your point about feedback, what exactly should be said to someone on how to improve their bots? I think if bot-making personally becomes a numbers game and popularity contest, analytics won't be good for you. There should be an option to turn it off or move analytics to a separate page entirely so bot makers won't have to see it if they don't want to.

Personally, I like seeing it tbh and lines go up when people do (rarely) use my bots. I see how long, I see when, I see the average time. The numbers give me an idea of what people like about my bots, what drew them in, what my audience is growing into. I don't see analytics as what I should be doing or what I have to do. If my bot flops then it just didn't find it's audience.

Just wanted to offer my perspective as someone who likes analytics but sees your point. Being able to choose a feature instead of it being forced on everyone would be nice.

u/JazzlikeNet1224 avatar JazzlikeNet1224 • 2d ago Hi Devs,

I wanted to ask a specific question regarding the transition from the current Verified Creator system to the upcoming badge system.

If a new system is being implemented, will the current “Verified Creator” tick marks next to usernames be removed for everyone, or will existing verified creators retain them as legacy badges?

I ask this because, from a creator's perspective, especially for those of us with smaller audiences who are still actively contributing, the current badge is not just a icon. It functions as a visible signal of trust and quality.

Honest observation of platform mechanics shows that the verified tick influences reader behavior: it helps users decide which bot to chat with and which creators to trust. It represents a standard that many of us strive for: to write better bots, contribute more, and earn that recognition.

If the plan is to discontinue the badge for new earners but allow past earners to keep it, it creates a significant issue:

Uneven Playing Field: It permanently advantages older accounts over newer, potentially more active creators. Demotivation: As mentioned in previous feedback by others (re: transparency), having a tangible goal gives creators direction. Removing that goal without a clear replacement, while leaving it visible for others, sends a message that newer efforts are inherently “worth less,” even if the quality meets or exceeds previous standards. Could we get some clarity on whether the playing field will be leveled (i.e., a full reset/removal of the old ticks) when the new system drops?

Thanks.

A mere week feels too short to give spotlight to all the new characters, which just end up getting buried and forgotten afterwards. Besides, not all users have willingness or opportunity to visit the site often enough to regularly check the weekly trending page

TransFat88 • 21h ago Touched grass last week 🏕️🌳 There are plenty of third party age verification sites that would not compromise user privacy with their accounts, and since there are already limited vs limitless bots, I don’t see why there is no verification in place to use the latter. Otherwise, what is the point of distinguishing them?

Having to verify anything even with a third party might even discourage some of the CSAM content.

1 more reply u/Extreme_Body_808 avatar Extreme_Body_808 • 2d ago Hi Shep, good morning, afternoon, or evening.

Are you going to release an update for the Lorebooks soon? Nobody's talking about them, and they're important in Janitor. Why can't we use the Lorebooks in public bots yet? I mean, can't we add our own Lorebooks to public bots? Is there a technical reason, or is it just not implemented yet? Since you improved the website interface, will you be improving the Lorebooks soon? I'm not asking for an exact date, just if it will be soon or if there's a possibility later.

I also have an idea: when you choose a public bot, tapping it should give you two options:

Add: To add your book to the bot and also remove it.

Replace: Next to 'Add'. When you enter, a tab should appear with the same design as the one you see when creating your own character, referring to “My Personas.” In that tab, the creator's storybook could be toggled on or off with a simple tap. If the user wanted to reactivate it, they would have to tap it again, and there would also be 'Accept' or 'Cancel' buttons to save the changes or cancel them.

The idea is that if a user creates a storybook similar to the creator's but changes things, there should be issues, and they should have the option to replace it, allowing them to turn off the creator's storybook simply because they don't like it and replace it with their own version. And this function (to add their own history books or have the function to disable the history book they don't like and help them add their own history books to their public or private bot chats, just for themselves, without changing the public bot or affecting or harming the experience of other users, nor the creator's history book. That is, just that they add a book and it applies only to the user, not to other users. Also, it should allow them to add their own history books if they want. Could this be done in the future, or is there any possibility that this function I mentioned will be implemented when the time comes to add history books for public bots? When the time comes, or when they update the history books, what will they update? Will there be a chance that the history book interface will be more user-friendly, including the save button when you create a history book? Please… Seriously, there are a lot of people who It gets confusing when you want to create your bot, and it gets confused (I include myself in that). I'd like to see if there's a possibility of improving the interface. I mean… Since they updated the website's interface, it wouldn't hurt if the same thing happened with the history books. Or at least they could improve them a bit, at least in their function as history books.

(Sorry for not translating it; it was impossible for me, and I tried, but well, with the AI, it came out awful. It even pulled things out that didn't belong and didn't fit with my text.)

Are there any plans to make it so users can chat with more than one bot at the same time? What is the status on JLLM2? What are the biggest updates you and the team are working on that you expect to come out relatively soon? Thanks for reading and have a good one!

BlueberrySmall7866 • 12h ago Certified Monsterfucker I swear being able to chat with multiple bots have been possible. Even sometimes around updates, mostly late 2024 and early 2025. but recently nothing. But I vividly remember having several chats going at once when I first started using Janitor. Was peak for my ADHD brain.

The only other way would possibly be using multiple devices or browsers. IE having one chrome browser with one account and one with a different account. Not sure if it works, might have to check that, but also seems easier on a computer and not phone/tablets. Btw mad probs to people using the site on mobile… Tried it once and idk how people do it.

MallNo6353 • 1d ago • Edited 21h ago • Brand Affiliate 🤦‍♂️ I’ll take the heat for this 💪🏻

My personal advice to SHEP is - start making structure and clarity around what the role of the moderator is. Leave all Janitor AI representation up to YOUR website only and your Dev Team. Update in ONE location. Moderators jobs are to moderate the communication on that platform in terms of terms and conditions of conversations. Remember that most old school business owners will remind you that too many chefs in the kitchen burns the food. It’s up to moderators to check your announcement on your site - end of, step back … take care of your energy and place it into your creativity instead.

When people step out of their lanes for whatever reason, it gets too difficult to carry especially for a startup. Moderation roles are not representation roles and that needs to be clear. It’s not up to moderators to be discussing updates or changes. That should be on Janitor ai announcement news only. Moderators keep the peace inside social coms platforms. That’s it. Sorry it’s just that I’ve managed business for over 20 years. PR isn’t necessary, clarity of roles is.

Moderators inside the site managing chat? I’m unpacking. Yes I have read it, no I don’t understand why users can’t adhere to the rules to the point of moderation but I believe it. Again, same applies. They need very clear boundaries of role.

Communication = Distribution. Moving away from Janitor ai social coms is inevitable as you are scaling. Move official announcements to your site only. Other channels become noise and hard to manage - even larger competitors had to do this in the early stages. - you’re now too big to be trying to communicate across platforms. It leads to all this. mods there need clear separation form representing JAI and the “sadly” toxic side needs to die down. This usually happens when capacity of product exceeds multiple coms channels.

A sad byproduct of the “human” touch when you’ve created something like this is similar to becoming an influencer or celebrity. You’re managing a fan base because you’re not selling it as product. Unpopular to say but pattern matches. This is why you’ve got behavior all over the socials. It’s mirroring fan behavior. The professional answer is to remove personal contact outside of your app. Use comms as a distribution tool only.

Moderation processes like these were not necessary before law changes and that hasn’t been understood by some creators. I don’t see anything wrong with any steps taken by Janitor ai.

MallNo6353 • 2h ago I want to add after reading all the documentations that I am aware of the tone and the read. Every AI provider continues to improve comms. Every startup or non-income based provider is learning about Moderation and safety teams and tech roles. All need to be very clearly documented and pipelined.

The average pipeline for flow in any game (animated game) that includes comms is 2 years. It takes 2 years to be flawless and that’s on apps that are earning and pay a full wage.

No question that moderators have done a brilliant job and work for free. That’s exceptional. But nobody should be shouting about communication before the role definitions are absolute, because it really has too many communication channels that go directly to Devs. That is choice but it opens the door for this type of thing to continue.

The rest of what was said, I’m not Dev, but I don’t agree with it. Grievances need a proper channel and shouldn’t ever become public town square incidents.

What are your thoughts on the analytics that were recently added? Any chance we'll get the ability to have a “creator dashboard” or anything soon? I've halted dev work on my extension when I heard you were adding it to the site, and while the character specific analytics are super nice (WAY more info than I can track. I love it!) it would be beneficial for us to be able to look at overall trends for our bots. <3

methylenebluestains • 22h ago Is it possible to get some transparency on the site's financials?

While I understand that this tends to be a sensitive topic, I would consider both the userbase and the volunteers to be stakeholders in the site's overall success. My concern is that most moderation teams are exposed to dark content and threats. With the site having expanded the way that it has, I would like to know if there is room to pay the people who are risking their psychologically safety to keep the site relatively corporate friendly. I also have a hard time believing that the site that dominates other chatbot sites is solely being run off volunteer work.

What are your thoughts on the allegations against you?

What do you think about the developers who left your site? This is no longer something that can be ignored by saying, “That's their loss. The site is still great.” Especially after recent events, everyone is spewing venom at you.

This isn't a question, but your rule about not mentioning other sites is quite absurd. I just wanted to point it out.

What is the level of privacy in our chats? I have serious doubts about that.

Why are you tightening your current image policy even more since it came into effect, even though everyone criticizes it?

(I tried to speak as respectfully as possible. I hope you won't take it personally.)
